President William Ruto has vowed to protect The Nairobi Hospital from fraudsters by ordering investigations, prosecutions, and defending its role as Kenya’s premier public medical institution.

Speaking in Mt Elgon, Bungoma County, during the inspection of the Cheptais Modern Market on March 17, 2026, President Ruto has defended his involvement, stating:

“As President of Kenya and Patron of Nairobi Hospital, I was approached by senior doctors to protect the institution from conmen and fraudsters seeking to expropriate it. Nairobi Hospital is a premier medical facility serving our nation and the region, and I will not allow it to be taken over by fraudsters.”

The President has directed that anyone involved in fraudulent activities at Nairobi Hospital will be removed, prosecuted, and charged, ensuring the hospital continues to serve the people of Kenya.

“To the opposition, find something else to do and leave Nairobi Hospital alone,” he added.

He has reaffirmed that the government will stand firmly by the hospital.

“As a public institution serving the people of Kenya, we will defend its right to exist and thrive. We will stop at nothing to restore it to what it has always been—the premier hospital of Kenya,” Ruto declared.

Opposition leaders in Kenya, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and the leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) Eugene Wamalwa, have recently accused President William Ruto of attempting to "grab" or take personal control of The Nairobi Hospital.

They have condemned the recent arrests of several hospital board members and senior officials, describing these actions as "criminal" orders from the President aimed at destabilizing the institution to facilitate a takeover.

The Nairobi Hospital was established during the colonial era to serve the European settler community and has since evolved into a leading non-profit regional referral center.
