Key Leadership Changes

The meeting terminated Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed’s appointment as Leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly. Members immediately appointed Suba South MP Caroli Omondi to the role.

Earlier, on February 2, 2026, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka had been elevated to Azimio Coalition Party Leader, succeeding the late Raila Odinga. At the same time, Junet Mohamed was dropped as Secretary‑General.

ODM Pushes Back

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rejected the leadership changes, arguing that the process violated coalition rules. ODM insisted that its leader, Oburu Oginga, was not consulted as required.

In a letter to the Registrar of Political Parties, ODM declared the changes illegitimate, claiming they were effected solely by Azimio Council Chairman and former President Uhuru Kenyatta. ODM maintained that leadership decisions must be made collectively by constituent parties—ODM, Jubilee, and Wiper Patriotic Front, not by one individual.
