The Ministry of Education has announced a total of 10,000 slots for the Elimu Scholarship Programme. Of these, 4,000 are reserved for refugee learners in camps and refugee‑hosting counties, while 6,000 are allocated to learners from counties that do not host refugees.
“Ministry officials were in Murang’a County to monitor the Elimu Scholarships programme for the 2026 cohort,” says the Ministry.

The programme targets deserving students who completed the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and are now transitioning to Grade 10. By covering tuition, uniforms, transport, and learning materials, Elimu ensures that poverty does not become a barrier to education.
For learners with disabilities and refugees in Kakuma, Kalobeyei, and Dadaab, the scholarship extends beyond academics it is a lifeline of inclusion.

The scholarship covers school fees, transport, school kits, pocket money, as well as mentorship and psychosocial support for the three-year senior school period.
Applications for the 2026 intake spanned all 47 counties.
Senior school admissions officially begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, when Grade 10 learners under the Competency‑Based Curriculum (CBC) are expected report to their assigned schools. This marks the first full intake of the pioneer CBC cohort into senior school.
