As the country transitions fully into the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the Ministry of Education has announced that Grade 10 learners will report to their respective schools beginning January 12, 2026.
Under the new senior school structure, students will join one of three pathways—Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Sciences—allowing them to pursue their strengths and interests more intentionally.
The Ministry has confirmed that all 1,130,459 KJSEA candidates will be placed into these pathways. Learners will continue to benefit from free primary education and free day secondary schooling, a policy the government maintains is central to ensuring equitable access.
The KJSEA exams are designed to measure the readiness of Grade 9 learners to transition into Senior School. Learners are placed into four competency levels: Exceeding Expectation (EE), Meeting Expectation (ME), Approaching Expectation (AE), and Below Expectation (BE).
