The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentist Union has issued a 21 day strike notice on 17 county governments over failure to implement agreed basic salary adjustments of doctors 


The union said doctors working in the affected counties would down their tools if the outstanding adjustments were not reflected in their payslips by the expiry of the notice 


Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday,KMPDU secretary General ,Davji Atellah said the affected counties had failed to implement commitments made under a return to work formula ,a court order and subsequent agreements

The union said doctors working in the  affected counties would down their tools if the outstanding adjustments were not reflected in their payslips by the expiry of the notice 

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday,KMPDU secretary General ,Davji Atellah said the affected counties had failed to implement commitments made under a return to work formula ,a court order and subsequent agreements 

He said council of governors had directed counties to implement the salary adjustments during a meeting  held on July 22,2026

Atella also said the union had also given counties until the end of October to comply before taking further actions.

The affected counties are Murang'a,Nyandarua,Nyeri, Kirinyaga,Kiambu,Lamu,Taita-Taveta ,Tana river ,Machakos ,Makueni ,Laikipia ,Narok,Kajiado Embu,Isiolo,Meru and Vihiga .

"We are not seeking fresh negotiations,county governments must honour their commitments as healthcare cannot operate on broken agreements ,"he said .

He warned the doctors in affected counties would proceed with the strike if the salary adjustments were not implemented before November 25,2026 .

The union also cautioned county officials against attempting to negotiate separately with it's branch leaders ,county liaisons or national officials during the notice period .
