The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 24,000 internship opportunities for junior school teachers in a major recruitment drive set to begin later this month.

The positions, which are designed to facilitate the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), will provide unemployed registered teachers with the opportunity to acquire valuable experience while simultaneously addressing personnel requirements in schools throughout the nation.

According to the TSC, the application portal will be active from Tuesday, August 26, 2025, to Monday, September 9, 2025, at midnight. Applications submitted in person will not be accepted; instead, interested and qualified candidates must apply online via the Commission's website.

To qualify, applicants must be citizens of Kenya with at least a diploma in education, a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE, and C+ in two teaching subjects or their equivalent.

They must also be registered teachers with the TSC and unemployed, with no record of disciplinary issues. Successful candidates will be posted to junior schools within the sub-counties where they are interviewed, or in other parts of the county with vacancies.

A monthly stipend of Ksh 20,000 will be provided to participants during the 12-month internship program period, subject to regulatory deductions. The commission notes that, " The Teacher Internship Program is meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering the teaching service."

Despite not being a full-time position, the program's goal is to improve instructors' abilities through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on classroom experience.

TSC emphasizes that the recruitment process is free of charge, warning applicants against fraudsters who may demand money under the guise of facilitating recruitment.

During the verification process, candidates will need to present original academic and professional certificates, a teacher registration certificate, a national identity card or passport, two passport-sized photos, a Kenya Revenue Authority PIN, and where applicable, a disability card from the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD).

TSC has assured that the selection process will be merit-based and transparent, encouraging persons with disabilities to apply, highlighting that, "The Teachers Service Commission is an equal opportunity employer as per the constitutional provisions and law."

The Commission has further called on the public to report any fraudulent recruitment activities to its offices or the police and also emphasized that the recruitment will be free of charge.

Details of the vacancies per county and sub-county are available on the TSC website. With the large number of slots available, the program presents a timely opportunity for qualified teachers to gain professional exposure while contributing to Kenya’s education sector.
