• While addressing the congregation, President Ruto clarified the circumstances surrounding the project to avoid any misconceptions about the use of public funds.

Speaking during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Embu on June 4, 2025, President William Ruto dismissed claims that he is building a new church, stating that he found a temporary chapel already in place at the State House grounds.

“I believe in God, and I have no apologies to make for building a church, we will build the church of God,” he stated. “It is true I am building a church here in State House. I found a tin chapel here, that is not the standard of a state house.”

This has sparked a conversation among religious leaders and citizens alike, with supporters welcoming the gesture as a sign of respect for the church’s contribution to national life.

While addressing the congregation, President Ruto clarified the circumstances surrounding the project to avoid any misconceptions about the use of public funds.

He explained that the church was already in existence only that it was made of mabati.

“I am using my own money, not government money,” he emphasized. “I did not start building the church; I found it built, only that it was a mabati one. I simply offered to help improve it so that worshippers can have a more dignified place to gather,” he said.
