Construction of the modern Kesses Market under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) is 75% complete, Principal Secretary for Interior Dr. Raymond Omollo has announced.

The two-storey facility, launched in April 2024, is part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) aimed at empowering grassroots businesses.

In a post on X on July 1, 2025, PS Omollo has confirmed that finishing works are currently underway. These include paintwork, terrazzo floor installation, and the setup of water systems and modern stalls.

“The Kesses Market will offer a safe, hygienic and well-organized space for 204 traders,” said Dr. Omollo. “This project reflects our commitment to transforming rural economies and improving livelihoods," Omollo added.

The ground floor will accommodate 120 traders, with an additional 84 on the upper floor. Designed with functionality and security in mind, the market features a perimeter wall, an administration block, sanitation facilities, solar lighting, access roads, and designated sorting and loading zones.

Beyond the infrastructure, the project has already created jobs for 30 local workers, and is expected to catalyze broader economic activity through increased trade volumes, value addition and linkages with transport, storage and financial services.
