NAIROBI — The Media Council of Kenya will host the 14th Annual Media Excellence Awards (AMEA) 2026 on Friday, May 15, at Safari Park Hotel and Casino in Nairobi. The ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m. (EAT).

This year marks a significant milestone with the rebrand from the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards to the Annual Media Excellence Awards. The change reflects the revised Code of Conduct for Media Practice in Kenya, broadening the scope to honor not only journalists but also media houses, content creators, veterans, and professional platforms that have made a lasting impact on the industry.

Over 30 winners are expected to be recognized for their contributions to media excellence. The awards also serve as a platform for the Council to identify emerging trends, training needs, and areas for development across the sector.

Key speakers at the event will include Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Rebecca Miano, Media Council of Kenya Board Chairman Maina Muiruri, and Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo, MBS.

The summit will bring together journalists, media owners, government representatives, civil society, academics, and development partners. Organizers say the gathering will highlight the vital role of a free, ethical, and independent media in strengthening Kenya’s democracy.

The Media Council has extended its invitation to stakeholders and the public, encouraging attendance and coverage of the awards ceremony.
