• The IEBC has outlined a clear roadmap for the contest. Political parties must submit names for primaries and independent candidates must present their names and symbols by March 25, 2026.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued notice of by‑elections set for Thursday, May 14, 2026.

The contests will take place in Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County for the Member of National Assembly, and in Porro Ward in Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo/Marakwet County for Members of County Assembly.

In Porro Ward, the seat fell vacant following the death of Patrick Leerte on December 28, 2025. He passed away at the Samburu County Referral Hospital after a short illness.

In Endo Ward, the vacancy arose due to the death of Jeremiah Kibiwott Toryebe. He passed away on January 9, 2026, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

Notice by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Emurua Dikirr seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno, popularly known as “Ngong,” who died in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026.

The IEBC has outlined a clear roadmap for the contest. Political parties must submit names for primaries and independent candidates must present their names and symbols by March 25, 2026.

Parties will then submit final nominee lists by April 7, with official nominations scheduled for April 15–16. Campaigns will run from April 15 to May 11, ending 48 hours before polling day. Voting will take place on May 14, 2026.

The race is already drawing significant interest, with family succession and grassroots dynamics shaping the narrative.

The late MP’s clan has endorsed his widow, Nayianoi Ntutu, a lawyer, to complete his remaining term.

Other contenders include Bernard Rono, an engineer and cousin to the late MP, reportedly backed by some family members; David Keter, alias “Dollarline,” a businessman who has previously contested the seat; and Kipronoh Ezekiel, the current Ilkerin MCA, viewed as a strong grassroots challenger.

This by‑election promises to test party machinery, community loyalties, and the resilience of grassroots democracy in Narok and beyond.
