On Friday, March 6, 2026, Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County bid farewell to its late Member of Parliament (MP), Johana Ng’eno, who was laid to rest at his Mogondo Village home in Narok County. President William Ruto led government officials, legislators, and thousands of mourners in paying their last respects, underscoring the gravity of the loss.

Ng’eno’s burial followed the tragic helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, that claimed six lives. Before the interment, a joint funeral service at Emurua Dikirr Primary School drew emotional tributes from his widow, Naiyanoi Ntutu, and political colleagues, who remembered him as a leader of conviction and compassion.

President Ruto described Ng’eno as a man who lived a life of dedicated service, leaving a remarkable imprint on his constituents, the nation, and humanity.

To honor his legacy, Ruto has announced plans to establish a university in Emurua Dikirr Constituency. He pledged Ksh. 20 million for land acquisition and Ksh. 750 million for construction, promising to return before July 2026 to break ground.

“I want us to do that work quickly so that the children of Emurua Dikirr and others from across the nation get a place to learn,” he said.

The President also highlighted Ng’eno’s passion for the arts. He has committed Ksh. 20 million annually for the next five years to support artists, with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports taking over initiatives Ng’eno had championed.

In a gesture of compassion, Ruto honored requests from families of the departed: offering jobs to Wycliff Kiprotich Rono’s widow and Robert Kipkoech Keter’s sister, settling Nicholas Kosgei’s family, and sponsoring Amos Kipngetich Rotich siblings’ education. Each of the four families will receive Ksh. 2 million.

Leaders from across the country including Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretaries, governors, and Members of Parliament gathered in Emurua Dikirr to honor the six heroes. Their presence reflected the unity of grief and the collective resolve to carry forward Ng’eno’s vision.

Ruto further directed the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development to rename Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo Housing Estate as Johana Ng’eno Housing Estate. He noted Ng’eno’s pivotal role as committee chair in advancing the country’s housing agenda, saying the renaming would immortalize his contribution.

Ng’eno’s farewell became more than a burial; it became a national moment of reflection. His legacy of service, advocacy, and humanity now lives on in promises of education, housing, and cultural support—symbols of continuity that bind his memory to Kenya’s future.
