• The project, valued at USD 863 million, is being implemented through a public‑private partnership between China Road and Bridge Corporation and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). It will feature modern interchanges, overpasses, and underpasses, designed to improve safety and efficiency.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen says the dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit road will transform Nakuru County.

He calls the project a “game‑changer” that will ease traffic, cut travel time, and open new economic opportunities for residents.

Speaking during an inspection tour in Naivasha on February 18, 2026, Murkomen assessed security and traffic management measures designed to keep construction seamless and minimize disruption along one of Kenya’s busiest transport corridors.

“This afternoon, I assessed the security and traffic arrangements in place to ensure the construction is seamless and disruption to the flow of traffic is kept at a minimum,” he said.

The Rironi–Mau Summit highway, a critical artery linking Nairobi to the Rift Valley and western Kenya, carries thousands of vehicles daily.

Once completed in 2027, the expanded dual carriageway will ease congestion, reduce travel costs, and improve road safety.

Murkomen emphasized that the project will boost Nakuru’s economy, noting, “The dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit road, once completed next year, will change the fortunes of Nakuru County and the Western part of Kenya.”

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, present at the event echoed the sentiment, urging the contractor to prioritize local employment along the stretch of road within the county.

“I called on the contractor to prioritize local employment along the 80% stretch within our jurisdiction,” she said, underscoring the project’s potential to create jobs and uplift communities.

The project is being implemented through a public‑private partnership between China Road and Bridge Corporation and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). It will feature modern interchanges, overpasses, and underpasses, designed to improve safety and efficiency.

According to the State Department of Roads, President William Ruto officially launched the project in November 2025 at Kamandura, Kiambu County, marking the start of construction.

For Nakuru residents, the benefits go beyond smoother travel. The dual carriageway promises to lower vehicle operating costs, attract investment, and strengthen the county’s role as a gateway to western Kenya.

The inspection tour forms part of the Interior Ministry’s broader strategy to support national development initiatives through enhanced security oversight and institutional capacity building.
