- More than 1.13 million Grade 9 learners sat for this inaugural assessment, which now serves as the key tool guiding their placement into Senior School.
On December 11, 2025, Kenya marked a historic milestone in its education journey.
At Mitihani House in Nairobi, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, officially released the first‑ever Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.
The KJSEA represents a new chapter under the Competency‑Based Curriculum (CBC), replacing the long‑standing Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
More than 1.13 million Grade 9 learners sat for this inaugural assessment, which now serves as the key tool guiding their placement into Senior School.
Unlike the KCPE, the KJSEA does not rank candidates or schools. Instead, it introduces performance bands and achievement levels, shifting the focus from competition to skills, growth, and readiness for the future.

Through a post on his official X account CS Ogamba emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to learner welfare and transition:
“Following the release of the results, the Ministry will now commence the placement of learners to Senior School. The placement will be guided by the learner’s performance and the selected pathway. It is expected that the Grade 10 learners will report to their respective schools starting from 12th January, 2025.”
The event was attended by key education leaders, including the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Julius Bitok, the acting CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, Evaleen Chemitei, the Chairperson of the KNEC Board, Julius Nyabundi and the CEO of KNEC, Dr. David Njengere.
