Kenya has secured significant gains during President William’s trip to the United States, where he joined regional leaders in witnessing the signing of the DRC–Rwanda Peace Agreement.

Most notably is the historic $1.6 billion health cooperation framework with the United States. This grant, not a loan, will strengthen Kenya’s fight against Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and emergency response systems under a new post-aid delivery model.

For the first time, U.S. health funding will flow directly into Government of Kenya systems, ending the parallel NGO model and supporting institutions such as the Social Health Authority (SHA), Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), laboratories, surveillance, digital health, and the health workforce.

Kenya and the U.S. Development Finance Corporation discussed a potential $1 billion debt‑for‑food security swap. The arrangement would ease debt pressure while boosting food programs.

In addition, President Ruto advanced economic diplomacy by holding talks with U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, laying the groundwork for a bilateral trade agreement and a new trade and investment framework.

Several sectors including agriculture, leather and footwear, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, ICT, and digital devices were identified as high-potential areas to create jobs, expand exports, and strengthen domestic value chains.

The International Finance Corporation expressed interest in Kenya’s Infrastructure Fund, including modernization of JKIA and clean energy investments, signaling confidence in Kenya’s infrastructure pipeline.

Strategically, Kenya’s role as a core U.S. partner in peace and security across Eastern Africa was elevated, with commitments to deepen cooperation on counter-terrorism, maritime security, and conflict resolution.

Reflecting on the visit, President Ruto has described the engagements as a watershed moment in the long friendship between Kenya and the United States, emphasizing that the commitments made in Washington will translate into real impact for citizens and usher in a new era of shared prosperity and regional influence.

“Kenya values President Trump's personal leadership and the renewed momentum he has brought to our bilateral relationship. We are committed to translating the commitments made in Washington into real impact for our citizens; and to expanding this partnership into one of the most consequential and impactful on the continent,” said Ruto.
