The final journey of Raila Odinga is marked by a series of solemn ceremonies across the country. On Thursday, October 16, his body will arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 9:30 AM, followed by a dignified procession to Lee Funeral Home.

At noon, the body will be taken to Parliament Buildings for public viewing, allowing Kenyans to pay their respects to the man who shaped the nation’s political landscape. Afterward, the body will return to the funeral home.

On Friday, October 17, a state funeral service will be held at Nyayo National Stadium beginning at 8:00 AM. Following the service, the body will be transported to Raila’s Karen residence, where an overnight vigil will be held in his memory.

The next day, Saturday, October 18, the procession will depart Nairobi for Kisumu County. There, the public will have another opportunity to view the body at Moi Stadium from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The journey will then continue to Bondo in Siaya County, culminating in a funeral service and burial rites on Sunday, October 19, starting at 9:00 AM.

The impact of Raila’s death has been deeply felt across the region. First daughter Charlene Ruto, who had just arrived in Kakamega for the Lake Region Economic Bloc Climate Change and Agri Expo, expressed her disbelief and sorrow:

“I initially refused to believe the stories… how? I am still processing and can’t believe what has happened.” The event was canceled in respect of the mourning period.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni also paid tribute, emphasizing Raila’s Pan-Africanist ideals and his unwavering commitment to regional unity: “It is important for the young people to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future.”

In Mombasa, Governor Abdulswamad Nassir invited the public to sign a condolence book at the Governor’s Office, encouraging citizens to come together to honor Raila’s legacy as a true champion of democracy.
