The National Police Service (NPS) has announced temporary road closures in key routes in Nairobi on August 7, 2025 due to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024)
Aerodrome Road will be fully closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout, while one lane of Lang’ata Road between Madaraka and Lusaka Roundabouts, and one lane of Mombasa Road from Lusaka to Bunyala Roundabout, will also be shut down.
To ease congestion, motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Those traveling from Mombasa Road to the CBD should divert via Likoni Road and Enterprise Road near General Motors, or opt for the Southern Bypass through Ole Sereni.
Drivers from Lang’ata Road heading to the CBD are encouraged to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road via Mbagathi Roundabout.
For those leaving the CBD toward Thika Road, Limuru Road or Kiambu Road are the recommended options.

Matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani Stadium should follow the Ruaraka–Baba Ndogo–Ngomongo Road route to reach Ngomongo Roundabout.
Meanwhile, motorists from Thika Road heading into the city should consider the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.
Importantly, Thika Road should be avoided unless traveling directly to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
NPS, in collaboration with other agencies, has deployed additional officers to manage traffic flow and ensure public safety. Authorities have warn that any violations of traffic rules will be met with stern action.
