Former Chief Justice David Maraga, during a recent interview, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Citizen TV openly spoke about how disappointed he is with President William Ruto's government.
Declaring the current administration a failure, Maraga said that he would lead a team that will fundamentally transform the country's governance system.
"Ruto's government has failed Kenyans," Maraga stated. "I have offered myself to lead a team that is going to come with the fundamental transformations of the governance system in this country. We will stop the extractive system and get the country back to where it is supposed to be."

In the interview, Maraga stressed that the current leadership had allowed rampant looting of public resources and that unless urgent action is taken, the country is headed for collapse.
"If we don't start with stopping the looting of public resources, we are going to lose this country," he warned. He urged Kenyans to register as voters, emphasizing that real change begins at the ballot. "Let us come up and get registered as voters and vote this government out."
Maraga insisted that unless Kenyans unite to vote out the current leadership, the nation risks disintegration. "If we go on with Ruto for a second term, we are going to disintegrate," he said.
"We need to come together and elect a government that will restore institutions, restore the economy, and change the governance system," Maraga concluded.
The former Chief Justice lamented the loss of Kenya's regional reputation as a peace broker. "Kenya was, in the past, a place where peace negotiations would be held. Private interests are overriding national interests. We have lost that key position."
If elected in 2027 general elections Maraga pledged to restore trust in institutions like the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. "I will ensure that I get Kenyans to trust me by strengthening bodies like EACC and get them to prosecute those who have stolen from government coffers."

He challenged Parliament to exercise its constitutional role, accusing it of being captured. "Parliament has the power to impeach the President. He has violated uncountable provisions of the Constitution. If Parliament were doing its work, the President would not be in office today."
Criticizing the culture of lawlessness in Kenya in the interview, Maraga highlighted that impunity had reached the highest level it has ever been in the country, he also pledged that during his administration he would make it clear that everybody is to obey the law, himself included.
"Impunity has reached the highest level it has ever been in this country," Maraga said. "In my administration, I will make it very clear and I am making it clear from now that everybody will have to obey the law, starting with me."
Addressing the Gen Z protests, David Maraga said, "People who are marching to State House are people who feel betrayed. If I were in State House, I would walk out and ask them what it is they want."
