A serious road accident has occurred on the morning of July 15, 2025, in the Olive Inn area along the Kabarak–Nakuru Highway. The incident involved a matatu en route to Nakuru town. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, though all passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees.
According to eyewitness accounts, the matatu was traveling at a high speed when it veered off the road to avoid a potentially more severe collision. Reports indicate that the brakes were malfunctioning, forcing the driver to swerve abruptly. The vehicle collided with a culvert, resulting in multiple injuries.
Victims suffered fractures to the limbs. The matatu conductor sustained a particularly severe neck injury.
The accident, which occurred during the busy morning rush hour, has left residents and commuters in shock.
Among the eyewitnesses was Geoffrey Murang’a, who narrowly escaped involvement. Mr. Murang’a, who typically boards a matatu each morning to take his son to school, was unable to board the ill-fated vehicle due to lack of space.
“I was waiting with my son and another lady. She managed to board, but I couldn’t—there was no room,” he said. The woman who boarded is currently hospitalized with broken legs.
In a solemn reflection, Mr. Murang’a has expressed gratitude for what he called “a divine intervention,” and plans to celebrate life with his family.
Additional reports revealed that a man who regularly sits near the culvert was present at the scene, but survived the accident. It is a location he frequents to enjoy the morning sun.
The accident has left the Olive Inn community deeply shaken. Traffic congestion followed as commuters and schoolchildren were caught in delays.
