It was curved out of the former Nakuru Town constituency by splitting the constituency to form Nakuru Town West constituency and Nakuru West constituencies in 2010 under the new constitution.

The constituency is largely urban and cosmopolitan, with residents from different ethnic communities including Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Luo, Luhya, Kisii, and Kamba communities. Because of this diversity, politics in Nakuru Town West is usually competitive and coalition-based.

Political Leadership

2013: Samuel Arama (ODM party) – 20,255 votes won the first election conducted after the formation of the constituency.

Opponent: Charles Maisiba (The National Alliance, TNA) – 17,837 votes.


2017: Samuel Arama (Jubilee Party) – 29,682 votes defended his seat though through another party.

Opponent: Andrew Ochoki (ODM party) – 25,071 votes


2022: Samuel Arama (Jubilee Party) – 34,936 votes. Arama again won for the third time with the same party of Jubilee party.

Opponent:Daniel Kamau (UDA party) – 29,045

Development Projects

Trade and Commerce

Kaptembwo and London wards host vibrant open-air markets, wholesale shops, and retail outlets.

Informal trade (hawking, kiosks) is widespread, especially in densely populated estates. Also, some projects including the Free Area Market and urban economic growth have also been initiated.

Education

The NG-CDF in Nakuru West Constituency has invested in education through the disbursement of secondary school bursary and tertiary institutions. Also the construction of classrooms and school facilities.

Administrative and Security Facilities

The Constituency has invested in public administration offices. The investment on these projects help in delivery of government services, local security coordination and public sanitation.

Health and Social Support Programs

The Constituency implemented social protection and health programs such as Social Health Insurance cover support to support vulnerable residents in the area.

 Political Behavior

The voting behaviour in Nakuru Town Constituency usually aligns with the dominant parties nationally. This is shown as MP is elected first on the TNA party, and MCA were elected (4 out of 6) are from the UDA party, which was one of the formidable parties in Kenya then. Also, the MP was elected in 2017 through the Jubilee Party, which was the ruling party, and again in 2022. It implies that candidates associated with the government of the day are often supported by the voters.
