At Kabarak University’s School of Science, Engineering and Technology, being part of the community means tapping into the power to change lives—and to change the world. This isn’t just a motto; it’s a reality brought to life through innovative research and creative problem-solving, as showcased by both students and faculty.

During the 15th International Research Conference for the School of Science, Engineering and Technology held from July 10 to 11, 2025, Vice Chancellor Prof. Henry Kiplangat applauded the school’s commitment to solving real-world challenges.

He highlighted how student-led research, guided by experienced mentors, has gained recognition on national and global platforms. One key moment came in February 2025, when Kabarak University took part in the AI Everything Global 2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Representing the university were Dr. Philip Nyawere, Acting Director of Research and Innovation, Dr. Andrew Kipkebut, Coordinator of Innovation and Business Incubation and lecturer in AI and Machine Learning, along with student innovators Felix Masigwa and Mercy Jemeli.

They unveiled GasGuard, a smart, AI-powered gas leak detection system designed to prevent explosions and toxic exposure in homes, businesses, and industrial settings. The solution uses smart sensors and predictive analytics to identify danger and activate safety protocols early.

It's tech with heart: inspired by recent gas-related tragedies in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya, GasGuard aims to prevent such heartbreaking accidents from happening again.

As the VC put it, “Such an innovation will serve to reduce these kinds of accidents going forward.” It’s a testament to how the university empowers its community to create meaningful impact.

Kabarak University doesn’t shy away from answering a vital question facing today’s institutions: What difference do you make in the world? Through its robust academic offerings and a strong culture of mentorship, the School of Science, Engineering and Technology equips students to become not just skilled professionals, but agents of change.
